The 52-year-old actor spoke candidly to People magazine, expressing gratitude for his supportive family as they embark on this difficult journey together. "I have been diagnosed with ALS. I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter," Dane shared.
For those unfamiliar, ALS is a devastating condition that leads to the gradual loss of muscle control by affecting nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. Despite advances in medicine, there remains no cure for this life-altering disease.
Despite his diagnosis, Dane is determined to keep moving forward. Known for his captivating role as Cal Jacobs in HBO's hit series "Euphoria," he confirmed that he will return to the set next week to continue filming the much-anticipated third season. "I feel fortunate that I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to the set of Euphoria next week," he stated, while requesting privacy for his family during this challenging time.
Before captivating audiences in "Euphoria," Dane charmed viewers as Dr. Mark Sloan on the iconic series "Grey's Anatomy" for six memorable seasons, along with appearances in popular shows such as "Charmed," "The Last Ship," and "Kabul."
Dane is also a dedicated father to two teenage children with wife Rebecca Gayheart, showcasing his commitment to family as he navigates this new chapter in his life.
He joins a poignant list of notable figures living with ALS, including the legendary physicist Stephen Hawking, baseball hero Lou Gehrig, singer Roberta Flack, and many others, exemplifying the strength and resilience in the face of adversity.
