A Cabin Built for Isolation and Adventure

Josh Duhamel, the star of "Ransom Canyon," has traded Hollywood's bright lights for the serene, wooded expanses of Minnesota, where his cabin serves as both a sanctuary and a doomsday safe haven.

A Playground in the Wilderness

Duhamel affectionately describes his off-the-grid home as a "big playground" in an enlightening interview with Parade. Over the course of 15 years, he diligently built this retreat, stating, "It really got me back in touch. There’s something about it that fulfills the soul in a lot of ways."

Away from the Chaos

This secluded abode is a stark contrast to the chaos of California. The nearest store sits a daunting 40 miles away, pushing the family closer together. Duhamel says, "It’s really about everybody taking care of each other — making memories, spending time with family and friends. You really get a chance to get back to the basics."

Creating Lasting Memories

At 52, Duhamel finds joy in nurturing his sons away from screens. With Axl Jack, 11, and Shepherd, just 15 months old, family activities abound—whether it’s boating, playing soccer on the beach, or exploring the woods together. He emphasizes, "My son is going to have memories of this place forever."

A Bond Reinforced

The cabin has also deepened Duhamel's connection with his father, who discovered the land. He reflects, "My dad loves coming out there to hang out. We’ve spent more time together in these last five, 10 years than we ever did growing up." His mother has also embraced this retreat, turning it into a family hub.

Preparing for the Unknown

Duhamel openly identifies as a "doomsday prepper," and expressed his concern about potential crises in LA. He shared, "I have this crazy fixation on what happens if s**t hits the fan in LA and I have to take my family out there and live off the land." He’s even started growing crops and learning vital survival skills such as hunting and fishing.

Modern Comforts in Remote Living

Despite its isolation, the cabin is equipped with Starlink internet, ensuring they're not completely cut off from the outside world, paired with a custom water filtration system.

For Duhamel, this cabin represents more than just a retreat; it's a legacy. He hopes to pass this cherished space down to his children, instilling in them its importance—not just for luxury, but for the priceless moments spent as a family.
