In a touching act of friendship, Angelica Huston revealed to People magazine that her ex-partner, Jack Nicholson, reached out during the chaotic LA wildfires earlier this year, offering her shelter at his home. Huston, who was forced to evacuate her ranch in the Sierra Nevada, was surprised by the call.
"The phone just rang out of nowhere, and it was him," Huston reminisced about Nicholson's kind gesture. "It’s always a comfort when he calls… It was heartbreakingly sweet. I’ve thought back on it several times and realized that next time, I would definitely accept the invitation."
Their tumultuous relationship spanned from 1973 to 1990, ending largely due to Nicholson fathering a child outside of their relationship. Despite the breakup, Huston and Nicholson maintained a friendly bond. She emphasized to People that their connection is still quite important to her.
Yet, life’s obstacles make it difficult for them to meet often. Huston expressed her frustration, saying, "Life gets in the way. Also, they’re doing endless roadworks near his house, which makes it take hours to reach him. That’s always irritating. I tend to arrive late, which doesn’t please him either."
Huston's career took off when her father, renowned director John Huston, cast her alongside Nicholson in the 1985 film, "Prizzi’s Honor," which earned her an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. Reflecting on that time, she noted, "The combination of Jack and my father made it really significant and important. They managed to overcome various challenges, and ultimately, we triumphed together."
