TWGS: Day 1 Highlights - An Electrifying Kickoff in Hong Kong!

Hong Kong, 12 October 2024 – The World Games Series (TWGS) erupted into action with a thrilling first day in Hong Kong, showcasing 87 athletes from various corners of the globe in disciplines like Cheerleading, Roller Sports, and Wushu. The atmosphere was electric as spectators were treated to a series of breathtaking performances.

Inline Freestyle Skating Speed Slalom

In the much-anticipated Inline Freestyle Skating Speed Slalom, Spain's Alvaro Nieto Merino sped to victory in the men's category, clocking a stunning time of 4.823 seconds. He narrowly defeated France's Liam Dayries and India's Jinesh Nanal, who took the silver and bronze medals, respectively. Reflecting on his triumph, Nieto Merino expressed his emotions, stating, 'I feel great! Traveling alone was nerve-wracking, but this experience has been amazing. It’s a fantastic chance for these sports to gain recognition on a global stage.'

In the women’s event, Thailand’s Sasikan Kongpan delivered an impressive performance, securing a gold medal with a time of 5.374 seconds. Local athletes Jessica Loo and Yuet Ling Leung from Hong Kong showcased their skills, finishing close behind in second and third place.

Wushu Competitions

Wushu competitions mesmerized the audience with their blend of artistry and athleticism. Iran's Shahin Banitalebi took gold in the Men’s Taolu Nanquan – Nangun, while Brunei's Basma Lachkar excelled in the Women’s Taijiquan – Taijijian, earning a score of 19.323 and edging out Indonesia's Salwaa Dhana Azalia.

What’s Next?

As Day 1 wrapped up, anticipation grew for Day 2, with exciting events on the horizon. Wushu will feature medal events, including the Women's Nanquan-Nandao and Men's Taijiquan-Taijijian. Cheerleading finals for Pom Doubles and thrilling Roller Sports events will also be concluding the meet, promising even more action and drama.
