Urgent Recall: California Halts Raw Milk Products Amid Bird Flu Scare!

In a shocking development, the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) has suspended the distribution of Raw Farm's raw milk products after detecting the presence of the bird flu virus in milk samples. This troubling situation has triggered a statewide quarantine on all Raw Farm operations, affecting everything from dairy herds to bottled products.

Steve Lyle, the CDFA's director of public affairs, confirmed on Monday, "All Raw Farm operations are currently under quarantine, which means that all raw milk product distribution is suspended." The health department conducted tests on multiple milk samples at Raw Farm's bottling facility on November 27, and laboratory results revealed the presence of the avian influenza virus the following day. Fortunately, no contaminated products were released to consumers, as all tested milk was retained at the facility.

As investigations by federal, state, and county officials progress, health authorities have also issued a warning about two specific recalled lots of Raw Farm products. Consumers are advised to avoid products with lot codes 20241119 (best by 12/07/2024) and 20241109 (best by November 27).

Raw Farm has publicly addressed the situation, informing customers that older products from before the state testing might still be available on store shelves, although they will not distribute any new supply until the quarantine is lifted. The company reassured the public that their dairy herd shows no symptoms of bird flu, claiming, “Our hard-working dairy team is working in full cooperation with the state to maintain regulatory compliance.”

The resurgence of interest in raw milk, driven by public figures like Robert F. Kennedy Jr., has been met with increased scrutiny. Kennedy highlighted the aggressive suppression of raw milk by the FDA and suggested that Mark McAfee, CEO of Raw Farm, has been approached to be an FDA advisor on raw milk policy.

Raw milk, which is not subjected to the pasteurization process that kills harmful bacteria, poses significant health risks. According to the California Department of Public Health, this unprocessed milk can harbor serious pathogens such as listeria, salmonella, E. coli, and the bird flu virus. Vulnerable populations, including children, pregnant individuals, and those with weakened immune systems, are particularly at risk for severe illness. There have been dire past incidents correlated with raw milk consumption, resulting in miscarriages, kidney failure, and even fatalities.

Despite the ongoing turmoil, no direct cases of bird flu linked to raw milk have been reported at this time. However, the state remains vigilant, investigating potential connections between bird flu in dairy cows, poultry, and the human population. Alarmingly, the CDC has logged 55 cases of bird flu in humans in 2024, with a whopping 29 reported in California, primarily among farm workers in contact with infected animals.

Symptoms of bird flu in humans can mimic typical flu signs, including fever, sore throat, and body aches. California health officials have instructed individuals who experience any unusual symptoms after consuming raw milk products to seek medical advice promptly.

As this unfolding story develops, consumers are urged to stay alert and informed. For those who value raw milk products, this might be a wake-up call to consider the health implications more seriously!
