CNA Expands Global Reach with Launch in the UK: Now in 110 Million Homes Worldwide!

In a significant move for international news coverage, CNA has officially launched its broadcasting services in the United Kingdom, bringing its acclaimed news and current affairs programming to 110 million homes globally. As of now, viewers in the UK can enjoy CNA's content on various free ad-supported streaming television platforms including Freeview, Freely, and social TV platform Bolt+. Moreover, CNA is set to be available on the smart TV platform VIDAA in the coming year.

The UK launch occurred last Friday (November 22) and follows closely on the heels of CNA's debut in the United States this past June. This expansion is instrumental to CNA's ambitious international growth strategy, aimed at providing a comprehensive understanding of Asia's dynamism to audiences worldwide.

According to Singapore's High Commissioner to the UK, Ng Teck Hean, the depth and relevance of CNA's programming offer a nuanced understanding of a region that is home to many of the world's fastest-growing economies. He emphasized the increasing interest from business and political leaders in the UK and Europe to grasp Asia’s complex developments.

The launch event held at the Pan Pacific Hotel in London celebrated CNA's offerings, featuring over 200 attendees, including diplomats and industry leaders. The event showcased powerful excerpts from award-winning documentaries and allowed producers to engage directly with the audience. Noteworthy was the two-part documentary titled "The Exiles," which highlights the forced deportation of Asian men from Britain and Australia post-World War II, and has garnered a nomination for the International Emmy Award.

Industry leaders praised CNA for its storytelling prowess. Kimberley Lim from the Financial Times noted that CNA's content will provide "incredible insights" and "valuable perspectives" that resonate across diverse global networks.

Furthermore, Robin Niblett from Chatham House pointed out the necessity of perspectives beyond the dominant narratives surrounding China, advocating for more Southeast Asian viewpoints, which CNA is well-equipped to provide.

UK audiences will have access to a variety of programs, including: - **Asia Tonight:** Weekday bulletins covering significant news from the Asian region. - **East Asia Tonight:** Special focus on developments in Greater China, Japan, and the Korean Peninsula. - **Insight:** A revered investigative series examining major political, social, and economic issues affecting Asia and beyond. - Documentaries like "Walk the Line," detailing the treacherous journey of Chinese migrants into the U.S., "Undercover Asia," which reveals the harsh realities faced by marginalized communities, and "The Mark of Empire," that investigates how historical legacies influence today’s Asia.

The strategic importance of understanding Asia in today's global narrative was further emphasized by Mediacorp’s editor-in-chief Walter Fernandez, who highlighted that the continent plays a crucial role in international politics and economics. With CNA's expansion, audiences can navigate through Asia's complexities with well-researched reporting and analysis.

CNA, which is owned by Singapore's national media network Mediacorp, boasts correspondents across 15 major cities in Asia and has additional bureaus situated across North America, Europe, and Africa. Just recently, the network bagged two awards at the Association for International Broadcasting (AIB) for outstanding reporting in the News Explainer and Investigative Documentary categories.

With its expansion into the UK, CNA is set to play a transformative role in bridging the information gap between Asia and the Western world, offering critical insights into the continent’s rapid transformations.
