Marina Bay Cruise Centre Singapore Set for Extraordinary Upgrade
In an exciting development for cruise enthusiasts, the Marina Bay Cruise Centre Singapore is about to undergo a stunning S$40 million (US$30.2 million) renovation—its most significant enhancement since it opened its doors in 2012!
Managed by SATS-Creuers Cruise Services, the extensive nine-month project is set to kick off in the first quarter of this year. Phase-wise renovations aim to keep disruptions at bay, allowing the cruise centre to maintain operations on days when ships arrive.
What’s in Store?
The upgrade promises an array of exciting improvements, including expanded lounge facilities, spacious seating areas for smooth embarkation and disembarkation, and check-in stations designed to handle two large cruise ships at the same time!
Enhanced Accessibility Awaits!
To boost accessibility, the area in front of the cruise centre will be transformed into a bustling ground transport hub, featuring increased bus parking and more ride-hailing spaces—double the amount currently available!
Backed by Strategic Partnerships
SATS-Creuers operates as a joint venture—60% owned by Singapore's SATS and 40% by Creuers del Port de Barcelona, part of Global Ports Holding. In support of this ambitious investment, the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) has extended SATS-Creuers' operator agreement for an additional eight years, with an option for a further two.
This renewed agreement, formalized back on December 18, paves the way for operations to extend all the way to March 2037!
Boosting Capacity to Accommodate Growing Demand!
With the cruise industry trending towards larger vessels, the upgraded Marina Bay Cruise Centre is geared to elevate its passenger capacity from 6,800 to a whopping 11,700! According to SATS-Creuers chairman Bob Chi, this transformation is perfectly timed to meet the rising demand for cruise services, greatly enhancing the overall visitor experience while streamlining operations for cruise ship operators.
A Future-Ready Cruise Hub!
Ms. Ong Huey Hong, Assistant Chief Executive at STB's Industry Development Group, noted that Singapore’s cruise sector is poised for robust growth. She expressed confidence that these enhancements will firmly establish Singapore as a top-tier cruise hub, offering state-of-the-art facilities tailored to the evolving demands of cruise lines and passengers alike.
