Kenneth Tiong Shines at Aljunied Community Event
In a bustling community gathering at Bedok Reservoir on April 12, the Workers' Party's newest candidate, Kenneth Tiong, made a splash alongside seasoned MPs, stirring excitement ahead of the upcoming elections.
At just 36 years old, Tiong, who heads the tech start-up Sensemake AI, engaged warmly with residents, joining party bigwigs like Pritam Singh, Sylvia Lim, Faisal Manap, and Gerald Giam. This Neighbourhood Conversations event highlighted the party's outreach in the community.
A Promising Candidate for Serangoon Ward
Tiong's presence at the event has sparked speculation regarding his candidacy in the Serangoon ward of the Aljunied GRC. This area has been without a representative since July 2023 when former MP Leon Perera resigned.
Since early 2024, Kenneth has been actively coordinating Meet-the-People Sessions in Serangoon, working closely with constituents to address their needs and concerns.
A Passion for Change
Recently spotted at various mosque and temple visits with fellow WP MPs, Tiong has been integral in fostering dialogue within the community. In a passionate Facebook post dated March 26, he expressed a strong urge to "step up and influence the future direction of our nation" this election cycle.
Other Faces of the Future
Aside from Tiong, the April 12 event also showcased other potential WP candidates, including Abdul Muhaimin Abdul Malik and Jimmy Tan. Malik, a senior property manager, is eyeing a run in Sengkang GRC, while Tan, who works closely with Pritam Singh, is tipped for Tampines GRC.
Voices from the Community
The event attracted local residents eager to voice their concerns, including 75-year-old Ivy Lim. She took the opportunity to discuss the challenges seniors face with rapidly evolving technology, particularly the difficulties in using ride-hailing apps like Grab.
"It's tough for seniors like me to keep up with the changing times. I rely on buses and trains, but when I'm in a rush, it's hard to find a cab since most people are using Grab," she shared.
The Road Ahead for the Workers' Party
As analysts speculate about potential shifts, including Pritam Singh’s possible move to East Coast GRC, the Workers' Party is preparing for competitive elections ahead. With fresh faces like Kenneth Tiong, the party seems poised for an energetic campaign, making waves in constituencies across Singapore.
