SINGAPORE - In a significant milestone for Singapore's urban development, more than 8,800 Build-To-Order (BTO) flats in Tengah have reached completion, representing approximately 40 percent of the 23,000 units planned for this ambitious new town, according to the Housing and Development Board (HDB) on November 26.

Excitement is palpable as residents begin to settle into their new homes in the Garden district, which is the second of five neighborhoods being developed in Tengah. The first neighborhood, Plantation, has already welcomed its first residents, while the remaining districts—Park, Brickland, and Hill—are currently under construction.

Out of the 3,306 units in the Garden district, residents have collected keys for 2,936 units, translating to an impressive 89 percent uptake. As of November 15, a total of 7,921 households across both the Plantation and Garden districts have received keys to their new homes through eight BTO projects.

The inaugural batch of eager residents in Tengah first unlocked their doors to the Plantation district at the end of August 2023, marking a new chapter in their lives. Described as an environmentally friendly and car-lite "forest" town, Tengah spans 700 hectares and is the first new HDB town to be developed since Punggol emerged over 20 years ago.

When fully completed, Tengah aims to offer around 42,000 new homes divided across its five distinct districts. The Garden district alone, covering 80 hectares, will provide up to 6,500 new homes, all while emphasizing green living and community amenities.

Recently, a segment of the 900-meter-long Garden Farmway—a green connector designed to link residents to recreation spots like playgrounds, allotment gardens, and fitness stations—was unveiled. More of this connector is anticipated to be finished by the first quarter of 2025, ensuring a cohesive community experience.

Future amenities in the Garden district include an eating house, a supermarket within the Garden Vines @ Tengah BTO project, expected to open by early 2025. Additional facilities will comprise a bakery, medical services, and dental clinics to support the growing community.

Over in the Plantation district, the Plantation Farmway will link the four BTO projects to the town's first neighborhood center, set to be completed by late 2024. The neighborhood center, Plantation Plaza, has already seen the opening of 40 shops and eateries, including well-known establishments such as Swensen’s, DIY Hub, and Teo Heng Family KTV Studio, alongside the first businesses that opened back in June including Giant supermarket, Koufu food court, and a McDonald’s.

Additionally, the community is set to welcome several new educational facilities, with two pre-schools having opened in the Plantation Grange and Plantation Acres projects in August and September, respectively. Two more pre-schools are scheduled to launch in 2025, further enriching the educational landscape for young families.

With these developments, Tengah is not just redefining urban living in Singapore; it is creating a sustainable, vibrant community that combines modern living with nature and convenience. Stay tuned for more updates on one of Singapore's most exciting new towns!
