SINGAPORE: Exciting news for commuters! SBS Transit has unveiled plans to launch Singapore’s first express feeder service, aimed at drastically reducing commuting times for residents in the Tampines North and Tampines West areas. Starting December 9, Service 298X will provide a swift and efficient connection to the bustling Tampines Town Centre and transport hub.
In a recent announcement made on their official Facebook page, SBS Transit revealed that Service 298X will cater to selected bus stops along the established route of Service 298. This new service will run exclusively on weekdays during peak hours, ensuring that residents can commute more efficiently, although it won't operate on public holidays. The route begins and ends at the Tampines North Bus Interchange.
The launch of Service 298X is part of Singapore's Bus Connectivity Enhancement Programme (BCEP), a significant initiative introduced by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) to bolster public transportation systems. With an impressive allocation of S$900 million dedicated to the BCEP from 2024 to 2032, the program aims to purchase new buses, upgrade infrastructure, and introduce new bus services designed to meet evolving commuter needs.
Service 298X is designed to cater specifically to residents who live further away from major transport nodes. Boasting a more streamlined route with fewer stops, the express feeder will take passengers on a journey with considerably less waiting time. Notably, Service 298X will only stop at select bus stops along Tampines Ave 4 and Tampines Ctrl 1, which are Bus Stops 76559, 76551, 76149, and 76141, ensuring quicker transfers for busy commuters.
Excitement is palpable within the community, as many residents expressed their relief and gratitude for the new service. One local Reddit user remarked that while the regular Service 298 takes an unnecessary detour through older residential areas, the express feeder provides a direct link to the interchange. They highlighted the challenges faced during peak hours when buses were often full before reaching the older estates, making it difficult for residents to board.
The introduction of this express feeder service signifies a significant step towards improving the public transportation experience in Singapore, especially for those living in areas that previously struggled with accessibility. As urban development continues, such innovative solutions will be essential in keeping Singapore’s transport system effective and user-friendly.
With Service 298X on the horizon, Tampines residents can look forward to a future of more efficient travel, ensuring they spend less time commuting and more time enjoying all that their vibrant community has to offer!
