KUALA LUMPUR: In a distressing turn of events last night, a Malaysian football fan sustained minor injuries in Bangkok following an attack while leaving the Rajamangala Stadium after the ASEAN Cup clash between Harimau Malaya and Thailand.

According to a statement from the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM), the incident occurred as the Malaysian fans were exiting the stadium after the match. Thankfully, the Thailand Football Association (FAT) reacted promptly to ensure the injured fan received the necessary medical attention and coverage for his expenses.

FAM Secretary-General Datuk Noor Azman Rahman assured the public that all players and officials were unharmed. "We sent our officials immediately to assist the fans and contacted the FAT, who acted swiftly," he mentioned to the New Straits Times.

The Malaysian Embassy in Bangkok was also engaged to guarantee the safety of Malaysian supporters. “One fan sustained minor injuries last night, and we extend our gratitude to FAT President Madam Pang (Nualphan Lamsam) for her rapid response and support,” Azman added.

Madam Pang further elaborated through her Facebook page, detailing that the injured fan received treatment at Samitivej Srinakarin Hospital. The FAT's international affairs staff facilitated the medical process, covering all treatment costs to ensure the fan's comfort and peace of mind while abroad.

The injured fan underwent a CT scan and was instructed to stay overnight for consultation with an orthopedic specialist. However, he chose to return to Malaysia to seek further care. "This incident will be thoroughly investigated by the security team and local police," the FAT confirmed in their statement.
