In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through both Singapore and Malaysia, a 22-year-old Chinese national studying at a university in Singapore has been charged with the kidnapping of a 15-year-old girl. The incident unfolded in Johor Bahru, where Huang Xiaonan was brought before the court on December 5.

According to court documents, the kidnapping took place at a hotel on Jalan Station in the early hours of November 24, around 4:08 AM. Prosecutors allege that Huang intended to confine the teenager in secret, an accusation that could lead to a maximum penalty of seven years in prison along with a possible fine.

During the proceedings, Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Ameerah Allaudeen argued against bail, labeling the crime as non-bailable and expressing concerns regarding Huang's potential flight risk given his lack of family ties in Malaysia. The girl's father, a 48-year-old Chinese national, had filed a police report on November 26, expressing concern for his daughter's safety after she missed school on November 25. It was only later that the girl was located in Kuantan, Pahang, where she was safely rescued and a second suspect, also a Chinese national aged 22, was apprehended at the scene.
