ISTANBUL: In a shocking turn of events, a Turkish Airlines pilot tragically passed away in the cockpit during a flight, forcing an emergency landing in New York.

This distressing incident unfolded on Tuesday evening as Flight TK204, an Airbus A350, took off from Seattle bound for Istanbul.

According to airline spokesman Yahya Ustun, the 59-year-old captain, Ilcehin Pehlivan, collapsed during the journey. Despite the quick response from the crew, which included attempts to administer first aid, their efforts were in vain. Tragically, he passed away before the plane could safely land.

Tracking data from FlightAware indicates that the aircraft touched down at John F. Kennedy International Airport just before 6 AM on Wednesday, October 9. Following the emergency landing, Turkish Airlines immediately began making arrangements to ensure that passengers could continue their journey to their original destination.

Pehlivan was a dedicated member of Turkish Airlines' flight team, having served the airline since 2007. Notably, he had undergone a medical examination in March, which revealed no underlying health issues. This information adds to the bewilderment surrounding this event, as Ustun commented, “As Turkish Airlines, we deeply feel the loss of our captain and extend our sincerest condolences to his bereaved family, colleagues, and all his loved ones.”
