Exciting News for Meteorite Hunters!

The Antarctic Search for Meteorites (ANSMET) is buzzing with excitement as plans brew for a thrilling field season set to launch in December 2025! While we’re still awaiting the official go-ahead from the National Science Foundation (NSF), our hopes are high for a spot on the science teams eager to venture into the icy unknown.

The Trek to the Dominion Range!

Should we get the green light, our mission will lead us to the stunning Dominion Range (DOM) Main icefield, an extraordinary expanse of approximately 95 square kilometers of breathtaking blue ice. This pristine icefield lies at the base of the majestic Dominion Range mountains and promises a treasure trove of meteorites just waiting to be discovered.

A Meteorite Goldmine!

Historically, ANSMET has yielded fantastic results from smaller icefields, like our recent site around Davis Nunataks and Mt. Ward, where we recovered over 3,400 meteorites over eight exhilarating seasons of exploration. With previous reconnaissance missions at DOM Main in 1985 and 2003 uncovering 55 meteorites, the area's potential becomes impossible to ignore!

Preparations are Underway!

At the end of our last field season in January 2024, we pinpointed an excellent location for a runway and stored crucial gear, fuel, and a snow groomer to ensure our return to the icefield is as seamless as possible. Our reconnaissance work, combined with the vast blue ice, suggests that DOM Main might be a meteorite hotspot, ripe for systematic exploration.

What Lies Beneath the Ice?

As our journey to DOM Main inches closer, the anticipation continues to build. We’re eager to see just how many meteorites are hidden beneath the thin veil of snow covering the blue ice. With high hopes and meticulous planning, we aim to recover an even greater bounty than before!

Join the Journey!

Stay tuned as we prepare for what could be one of the most significant meteorite recovery missions in recent history. The secrets of the cosmos lie buried in the ice, and ANSMET is on the hunt!
