Our drive took us through a thrilling course at Honda Global in Tochigi, Japan, where we managed three laps featuring a mix of rapid acceleration, demanding hairpin turns, and swift slaloms. We had the chance to experience two prototype vehicles—the Honda Civic and Honda CR-V—both equipped with the new battery packs and electric motors designed for the Honda Zero platform.

A Thrilling Ride Experience

During our run in the prototype CR-V, it became apparent that the new platform offers an exhilarating driving experience! The weight distribution is notably lower, enhancing handling and agility, making it feel considerably lighter than the Honda Prologue, which was scrapped just last year in favor of more affordable EV options. The faster responses from the Honda Zero platform were evident, with speeds approaching 70 mph reached in a blink on the track’s straightaway.

Having owned a 2022 Honda CR-V Hybrid, I was pleasantly surprised by how nimble and responsive this prototype felt, with significantly less body roll. It slalomed flawlessly, showcasing a blend of sportiness and stability that many drivers desire.

What We Don’t Know Yet

Despite the exciting features, Honda remains tight-lipped on numerous specifications. The company claims its “Thin, Light and Wise” design will reveal a battery pack that is 6% thinner compared to current EV offerings. However, exact details about the battery output and capacity are still under wraps. They hinted at an EPA-rated range of 300 miles but have not disclosed their strategy for achieving it.
