Garbage's Iconic Frontwoman Claps Back at Critics
In a powerful response to harmful comments about her appearance, Shirley Manson, the dynamic lead singer of Garbage, took to Instagram to address what she calls 'weaponised' remarks made by media outlets.
Earlier this month, a Daily Mail article suggested that the band looked 'unrecognizable' in their latest promotional photos for the new single 'There’s No Future In Optimism.' Manson didn't hold back, questioning the intent behind the headline.
Embracing Age with Confidence
"What is THIS supposed to mean?!?" Manson remarked in her post. "The Druids look almost exactly the same as they have always done for thirty years, so I can’t help thinking this is directed at me. Look – I’m nearly sixty years old. Of course I’m not going to look anything like my late twenties self!"
She continued, rejecting the notion that aging should be viewed negatively. "Quite honestly, I think it would be a bit creepy if I did! This kind of language is weaponised to put a woman like me in my place," she stated firmly.
Manson's stand comes on the heels of similar sentiments expressed by stars like Millie Bobby Brown and Lady Gaga, further highlighting a growing movement against ageism in the entertainment industry.
Garbage's New Music and Upcoming Tour
Garbage isn’t just fighting societal standards; they’re also gearing up for the release of their eighth studio album, 'Let All That We Imagine Be The Light,' set to drop on May 30. This highly anticipated record follows their well-received 'No Gods No Masters' and promises to deliver the band's signature sound.
The band’s excitement doesn’t stop there—they are also planning a series of U.S. tour dates this fall, marking their first North American tour in nearly a decade. The tour will feature 31 shows across major cities including New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles.
Shirley’s Empowering Message
Manson concluded her message by celebrating the beauty of growth and change over time. "I will continue to wrinkle and flub...but I will still look cute in my pajamas with bed head and no makeup on. No matter what they say about me, I will always – and forever – rock HARDER than most!" Her fierce determination and unapologetic attitude serve as an inspirational reminder that true beauty lies in authenticity and confidence.
Join the Movement!
As Garbage continues to make waves in the music industry, fans and supporters are encouraged to embrace their own journeys of aging. Manson’s powerful stance on this issue shines a much-needed light on the conversation surrounding beauty and age in the music world. #RockOnShirley!
